Goodbye Sacramento Kings
On March 16,2001, Cecelia and I attended what may be our last Sacramento Kings Game. Since 1985, my brother Andy, sold me about 6 games a year from his season tickets.
Last Game? Its not official yet, but all indications are that the team will be moving to Disneyland for the next season. Why? Yeah Why?
Its seems its all about where the Kings play. The rich boys don't like ARCO Arena or what ever that new F'd up name is. So instead of building a new place or fixing up the old place, Owners want the City of Sacramento to build it for them!
Look at the history of the team...
Franchise History:
Rochester Royals 1948-57
Cincinnati Royals 1957-72
Kansas City-Omaha Kings 1972-75
Kansas City Kings 1975-85
Sacramento Kings 1985-?
I did not look it up, but its is my guess that this team has moved more than any other NBA team.
How do I feel? I am not sure yet. I remember getting all pissed when the San Francisco Giants were about to be moved, but saved at the very last second. So I may be sad later, but right now I am pissed off at the little rich boys.
The problem for the Giants like the Kings was the place where they played. Candlestick Park was not a good place for baseball. And it hurt attendance. What did the Giants do? They built Pacific Bell Park! Private Money!
Ever see the movie Major League? The owner wanted to more the Cleavland Indians to Miami. The way she was going to do this was to put the worse players she could onto the field. The Kings have one of the worse records for the last few years. They traded stars ways, Bibby, Peja, Webber. I just wonder if the Maloof poor little rich boys saw the same movie.
The irony was not lost on me that my last game was the Kings v Cleavland. The Kings lost.
For a good insiders view of the Kings,
